We have known for years that screen learning offers time for scrolling rather than for reading. Now, according to the editorial “Scandinavia’s U-turn on book reading” (Monitor Weekly, May 11), some countries are willing to switch paths and go back to book learning, though they pioneered the use of ed tech in their classrooms more than 10 years ago.

I admire school systems in so many places removing cellphones from the classroom. Maybe more school systems will now follow the lead of Norway, Sweden, and Finland, especially for young learners. Screen skimming does not belong in the classroom for real learning.
