MOBILE, Alabama (LifeSiteNews) — Republican U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama on Monday stressed the importance of supporting American farmers and denounced the increased push by the radical left to promote insects as an alternative to beef, chicken, or pork.
Speaking to Breitbart News editor and talk show host Jeff Poor on Mobile, Alabama’s radio FM Talk 106.5, Sen. Tuberville argued that some of his leftist associates are out of touch with reality concerning the necessity of supporting American farmers.
“You’re seeing a lot of these politicians, especially some of my colleagues on the left, say, ‘Hey, we really don’t need farmers. You know, our food is pretty good that comes out of Kroger’s,’” he told Poor. “They have no clue where food comes from.”
Tuberville also denounced efforts by researchers to supplement or replace traditional American food choices with insects, usually advertising the change as a necessary means to support environmental “sustainability” and cope with alleged overpopulation.
“I don’t know whether you’ve seen this or not — I’ve seen these studies. They’re growing these insects to start feeding us insects,” the Republican senator said. “They think there’s more protein in that than there is in chicken or meat or soybeans.”
“It is absolutely ridiculous what this left is trying to do to us,” he said.
Moves to demonize traditional farming and normalize the consumption of crickets and other insects have ramped up in recent years, LifeSiteNews has reported.
In 2021, Great Reset author Klaus Schwab’s World Economic Forum (WEF) argued that “we need to give insects the role they deserve in our food systems.”
Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who is considered the largest private owner of farmland in the United States and in 2019 invested $100,000 into an insect-farming start-up, has stated that “all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef.”
George Monbiot, a British writer and environmental activist, told Irish state-funded media outlet RTE last year that agriculture destroys “habitats,” is one of the leading causes of “climate breakdown,” and pollutes the air and water. “We need to switch toward other sources of food,” Monbiot said, arguing that “eating meat and milk and eggs is an indulgence we cannot afford.”

And an ideological push to trade beef for bugs isn’t the only problem facing modern-day American farmers.
In the Monday radio interview, Sen. Tuberville also warned that China is acquiring American farmland in an effort to supply food for its massive population of 1.5 billion people while U.S. farmers are getting edged out.
China’s widespread purchasing of U.S. land has triggered action from high-profile Republican leaders, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, who have moved to ban China from acquiring U.S. farmland after Chinese buyers purchased a record $6.1 billion in U.S. real estate in 2021.
“We’ve got to keep our eye on small business, which is small farmers across this country,” Tuberville said Monday. “If we lose the small farmers, corporations will take over.”
