Over two hundred Auburn University students were baptized in an unplanned ending to a Christian event on campus, Christian author Jennie Allen said. Students walked to a nearby lake to be baptized after a stadium event featuring worship and preaching.

Allen, one of the speakers at then event, shared in an Instagram post how the baptisms started:

Last night I finished a message at Auburn and was off stage and a student texted the pastor beside me they wanted to be baptized tonight. So I went back on stage and asked if anyone else wanted to trust Christ and be baptized.

Dozens raised their hands.

So thousands of students left the arena and walked to a lake and a red barn a mile away.

They circled the lake and 6-10 of us were in the water baptizing hundreds.

People surrounded the lake til almost midnight hearing the stories of life change and shouting and cheering and praying together. God is moving and He isn’t stopping.

Prayer sparked this outpouring of repentance and newness of life. Allen posted to Instagram a screenshot of a message she received from a student. The student said:

Jennie, the place where you baptized 200 of my classmates is also the same place we have been meeting at 6am every Friday morning to pray for our community and Revival in Auburn. It was unbelievable to see a MIRACLE happen on the very ground we have been praying over. Another miracle happened last night, we called one of our friends who hadn’t been able to make it to worship night and told him to come to the Red Barn, and he said “oh I’m already here! God told me to come and bring my guitar and pray! I’ve just been praying for one person to show up.”

Allen said in an interview with CBN News that near the end of the event, a local pastor who was helping to lead the event showed her a text from a student who wanted to be baptized. They quickly considered where they could baptize students and he suggested a pool and then the lake, which he said was almost a mile away from the arena. Jennie immediately got on stage and invited students to go to the lake, and about half of the several thousands of students there began to walk to the lake.

“They got to tell us why they wanted to do this tonight and so many of them were just tired of the darkness that they were living in and they wanted Jesus and they wanted a different way to live and it was so sincere,” Allen said. “It was initiated by them. We didn’t think of this. We didn’t plan this. Are you kidding me? This girl that texted her pastor to be baptized started this.”

You may shed a few tears of hope and joy watching this interview. It’s so good to see what God is doing. May the Spirit of the Lord keep bringing people from spiritual death to newness of life, and may we keep praying and partnering with God in laboring for the Gospel.
