Today on The Brew we continue our ’22 in Review.

What is the one story that best summarizes and symbolizes 2022? The story we can tell our children and grandchildren when they ask “What was 2022 like?” What was “The Year’s Most Perfect Story”?

That’s easy.

We take you back to April 18, the day after Easter and the traditional White House Easter Egg Roll.

Easter Bunny ‘Handles’ Biden at White House Easter Egg Roll

As a patriotic citizen, there are a few things one never wants to see: Our flag desecrated, our soldiers dishonored … and our president manhandled by the Easter Bunny.

At the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, Joe Biden was starting to chat with reporters about Afghanistan and Pakistan. Suddenly, the Easter Bunny hops up, pulls Biden away from the reporters and shoos him back across the lawn. Watch the clip. It’s not like the Easter Bunny needed Joe for some bit of festivity. The Easter Bunny stays put.

The Easter Bunny is now ordering the President of the United States around. Then again, perhaps the Easter Bunny has always been in charge at the Biden White House. Good a guess as any.

Meanwhile, further proof we are in a dire situation with Biden’s mental health. The Egg Roll began with Jill Biden ordering her husband to wave to the crowd.

Being manhandled by the Easter Bunny would hardly be Biden’s only embarrassing moment. Remember the photo of Biden holding cue cards with a list of directions your five year old would find condescending? The time he got lost on the front lawn of the White House? Come to think of it, can you think of an appearance this year that did not include an embarrassing moment?

But the Easter Bunny epitomizes how “hare”-brained things have gotten in the U.S.

#TwitterFiles: Government Pressured Twitter on COVID-19 to Shape COVID-19 Messaging, True or Not

No surprise, but still shocking to see the proof.

A new batch of #TwitterFiles dropped Monday morning focused on COVID-19 response. Bottom line? We were manipulated … and denied basic, factual, information.

David Zweig of The Free Press had the honors of revealing this batch of Twitter files. His examination shows how “Twitter rigged the Covid debate” by pressuring “Twitter and other social media platforms to elevate certain content and suppress other content about Covid-19.”

Read our whole story on this stunning opening set of revelations. “#TwitterFiles: Govt. Pressured Twitter to Filter, Censor COVID-19 Information … Whether Info Was True or Not.” Twitter owner Elon Musk on Monday promised more on the Twitter-Govt. COVID Info rigging in the next week or so.

We Weren’t Crazy After All

Musk offered a wild and strangely comforting assessment of what he’s found since taking over Twitter: “To be totally frank, almost every conspiracy theory that people had about Twitter turned out to be true.”

We weren’t crazy after all. Matt Taibbi, who is one of the primary journalists entrusted by Musk to reveal the inner manipulations by Twitter and the government, wrote a wonderful blog post Friday night expressing this same idea: So many people have felt for several years something was off, that reality was warped.

He writes:

Sometime in the last decade, many people — I was one — began to feel robbed of their sense of normalcy by something we couldn’t define. Increasingly glued to our phones, we saw that the version of the world that was spat out at us from them seemed distorted. The public’s reactions to various news events seemed off-kilter, being either way too intense, not intense enough, or simply unbelievable. You’d read that seemingly everyone in the world was in agreement that a certain thing was true, except it seemed ridiculous to you, which put you in an awkward place with friends, family, others. Should you say something? Are you the crazy one?

I can’t have been the only person to have struggled psychologically during this time. This is why these Twitter files have been such a balm. This is the reality they stole from us! It’s repulsive, horrifying, and dystopian, a gruesome history of a world run by anti-people, but I’ll take it any day over the vile and insulting facsimile of truth they’ve been selling. Personally, once I saw that these lurid files could be used as a road map back to something like reality — I wasn’t sure until this week — I relaxed for the first time in probably seven or eight years.

Something tells me the coming year is going to be a better one.

Can I get an “Amen”?

Speaking of Conspiracy Theories …

CIA and the JFK Assassination Continued …

We still don’t know what the CIA is hiding about its potential role in the murder of JFK, but one little tidbit tucked in the documents the National Archives released last week offers an intriguing clue.

Seems a former CIA financial clerk testified, before the House Select Committee on Assassinations, that the CIA paid Lee Harvey Oswald when he was stationed at the Naval Air Facility Atsugi in Japan.

The CIA Memo reads: “Shep phoned to say that James Wilcott, Jr., a finance clerk with the Agency from 1957 (EOD as GS-4), who served in Tokyo 1960 to October 1964, has told HSCA people that CIA hired Lee Harvey Oswald when Oswald served in Atsugi. Wilcott, after returning from Tokyo was assigned to JMWAVE in 1965, and resigned/retired in 1966.”

Whoever wrote the memo cast doubt on Wilcott’s story, noting that Wilcott arrived in Tokyo after Oswald had left. “Oswald retired from the Marines in September 1959 and went to USSR in October of that year.” (Nothing suspicious about that.) The memo writer says Wilcott, therefore, must have heard the story second hand. Really? Because a financial clerk wouldn’t have access to financial records?

Interestingly, Oswald learned Russian while in the Marines. Oswald said he was self-taught, but he was invited by the Marines to take a language aptitude test, and as this fascinating article “Lee Oswald & The Russian Language” notes, there is circumstantial evidence to suggest Oswald received special training. And a witness said Oswald was inexplicably cagey when asked about where he learned Russian. (The testing showed strong scores for reading and writing Russian. Not so good for speaking and hearing.)

Did the CIA or military intelligence prep Oswald for his “defection” to the Soviet Union? And the million dollar question: Did he remain working for the CIA up to and including November 22, 1963?
