Top 5 Evil Spirits Operating In Our Nation Today – Intercessors for America

What are the most prevalent evil spirits operating in America today? And, if we can identify them, how can we pray against them? In this article, I’d like to offer some simple prayer directives for how to pray against 5 specific evil spirits/principalities that are inflicting themselves upon America.

However, FIRST, may I remind you that God the Holy Spirit is the #1 strongest and most powerful Spirit operating in America today?

I know it can be so discouraging when we see evil look like it’s winning in sphere after sphere every day. However, God’s Word is still true! Psalm 37:1-2 still says:

Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb (Psalm 37:1-2 NKJV).

So, beloved, we have to cry out: “Let God be true and every man a liar!” And we must remember that our God is not just “one” among many spirits of equal strength. No; He is the One True God, who alone is wise. He is God Most High, and He sits above the circle of the earth and laughs at His enemies! Satan is only a created being, with limited strength; but our GOD has all power in Heaven and earth.

Therefore, as we pray against the many evil spirits that inflict pain upon Americans today, let us not forget that all spirits are not equal! God the Holy Spirit is greater than all the devil and all his demons put together. There’s not even any contest. So sit in your seat of authority as you pray, wielding the name of Jesus with every confidence in the world!

That said, let’s look at 5 of the most prevalent wicked spirits that we see in America today:

  1. The spirit of Jezebel.

Contrary to some opinions, the spirit of Jezebel is not manifested as a woman wearing a red dress. The operation of Jezebel is not limited to women at all; it impacts both women and men equally. Jezebel is a principality who works to counteract the work of God the Holy Spirit.

Jezebel is a seducer. It brings people into its grasp using one, seemingly-shallow method; but then it pulls them deeper into evil over time.

Its modus operandi is to first seduce people with false prophecy; then it leads them into rebellion against God, His Word, and His wisdom. Then, it pulls them into sexual sin. Afterward, it leads them to its ultimate objective—which is the occult and actual worship of Satan.

How can you pray against Jezebel? The #1 key I have found—something I have found to work 100% of the time—is found in Revelation 19:10:

And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Revelation 19:10 NKJV).

Since Jezebel purports itself to be a spirit of prophecy, forth-telling the will of false gods, releasing the TRUE Spirit of Prophecy by proclaiming the testimony of Jesus beats it every time. Releasing the testimony of Jesus cuts off Jezebel at the root and muzzles its voice. Try it and see! Magnify and lift up the name of Jesus in every way you can think of:

  • In worship;
  • In intercessory prayer;
  • In song;
  • Through artwork and dance;
  • In declaration and proclamation; and
  • Through testifying about Christ and what He has done for you!

Remember Revelation 12:11a: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony”! Raise that testimony of Jesus and watch the enemy fall down and flee!

  1. The spirit of Leviathan.

Leviathan is an evil principality that twists, accuses, and manipulates. We see stark descriptions of what it does in Job chapter 41. When someone is letting the Leviathan spirit operate through them, you will see that individual doing the following:

  • Taking things out of context;
  • Manipulating people and situations for others’ detriment and their own benefit;
  • Accusing people of thoughts they never thought, things they never did, and words they never said; and
  • Conjuring up false accusations with no basis in reality.

If you think about the accusations that have been leveled against various American patriots in recent years, notice how many things have been twisted and invented against them. That is not a human doing; it is the work of the evil Leviathan spirit.

How do you pray against Leviathan?

Ask Jesus to fill people with His Spirit of Truth. As it says in John 16:13a: “when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth ….” The Spirit of Truth counteracts the evil workings of Leviathan.

Also, pray for people to have godly boundaries. When Leviathan is operating at the individual level, it tries to destroy its victim’s life. Pray that people will rise up with godly boundaries and say NO to abuse and evil victimization, even if they have to cut off the relationships that were hurting them.

  1. The spirit of fear

Think about how much fearmongering we have seen in the USA in the last few years. Even before the COVID pandemic, fearmongering was an issue. Whether it came from the government or from the media, we were always being told that we should fear something or another (economic collapse, government shutdown, climate change, the list goes on).

Fear is a spirit, not merely an emotion. Remember 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (NKJV). Fear is a spirit, and it is cast out ONLY by God’s perfect love:

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love (1 John 4:18 NKJV).

But fear has not been cast out in America because Americans have not been made perfect in love. And why haven’t we been made perfect in love? Because we have allowed fatherlessness to become prevalent in our culture.

What does fatherlessness have to do with anything, you ask?

Great question! Fear, at its root, is always a father issue because it is the FATHER’S job to impart God’s perfect love into a child. Just as it is Father God’s role to love us fully, so He has given human, earthly fathers the role of teaching their children that they are beloved.

Think of 1 John 3:1:

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! (1 John 3:1 NKJV).

But America has become, in large part, a fatherless culture.

“Toxic masculinity” may be the new liberal buzzword for anything that is not effeminate and weak, but our nation needs real, godly, manly men. American prisons and schools and church-houses alike are filled with people who never had a dad to impart love, along with a sense of loving security and belonging, into their heart and home.

Every person needs a godly, loving DAD on this earth. And people whose dads did not do their job do not have that sense that their very identity is “beloved.” They might even “know,” in their head, that God loves them—but they do not feel loved. They have not internalized God’s perfect love for them. And therefore, they do not live from a place, from a mindset, or from an identity of being loved perfectly. So, they are tormented by fear.

How can you pray against the spirit of fear?

  • Pray for a baptism of God’s perfect love.
  • Pray that every person in America would receive and be transformed by the perfect love of Father God.
  • Also, pray that there would be an outpouring of forgiveness, and of healing from father wounds.

Why are forgiveness and healing from father wounds related? Because forgiveness is what heals father wounds.

Here’s how it works:

God’s perfect love is the only love that can cast out fear. But, people can only internalize that perfect love when they heal from those father wounds.

Why? Because people’s bad experiences teach them the false paradigm that “fathers” and “fathering” are bad and will hurt them. When these father wounds go unhealed, that paradigm cannot be cast down … and we tend to keep Father God at arm’s length.

We need an outpouring of true forgiveness, which is the only way to heal from father wounds. And when people get healed from their father wounds, their hearts suddenly open to receive and internalize the perfect love of Father God. THEN, and only then, can God’s perfect love cast out fear.

(Note: People often think that you cure fear with faith. However, this is incorrect. You cure evil things with the opposite, holy thing. Faith is the opposite of doubt and unbelief. But love is the opposite of fear. Faith cures doubt and unbelief, but only love casts out fear.)

  1. The spirit of delusion

Nowhere in American history have we seen delusion embraced and popularized as we are seeing it today. It seems like, nearly every day, people are coming up with some new concept that goes against science, biology, reality, and common sense—but they embrace it as truth, receive it as truth, proclaim it as truth, and persecute those who remain stalwart in their refusal that it is truth.

This is a spirit of delusion. As it says in 1 Timothy 4:1: “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons …”

If there was ever a time when we are seeing “deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons” at work in America, it is today. How can we pray against it?

Pray against the spirit of delusion by asking God to counteract it with His wisdom from above. Pray for an outpouring of wisdom.

The Lord tells us in Proverbs 4:7 that wisdom is the #1 thing we need:

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding (Proverbs 4:7 NKJV).

In America today, culture seems to have lost both wisdom AND understanding. Let’s pray IN the Holy Spirit of wisdom, and with Him His understanding. By doing so, we will be praying the spirit of delusion OUT of our nation.

  1. A spirit of entitlement

We could list dozens, if not hundreds, of foul spirits that are operating in America today—and we would probably be right on all of them. There’s no scientific way to rank them. However, as I was praying over this article, I felt strongly led of the Lord to include the spirit of entitlement as one of the top spiritual threats operating in America today.

Romans 1:20-23 says this:

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things (Romans 1:20-23 NKJV).

I am struck today by the importance of the phrase “they did not glorify Him as God, nor were they thankful ….”

Friend, we have more to be thankful for than any other nation on the earth. We are more blessed, more prosperous, and possibly even more advanced than any other nation. The American dream—with its 2.5 children, 1.5 houses, and white picket fence—is possible for all, with the right amount of work, patience, and dedication.

Nevertheless, dishonor runs rampant. We have forgotten the red beaches of Normandy, where 29,000 men were killed and 106,000 were wounded or went missing on D-Day alone, all so the world could be free. We have forgotten the last sentence of the Declaration of Independence, which states:

“with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor” …

And we forget that this Declaration did in fact cost our Founding Fathers their lives, fortunes, families, businesses, and many other things that they held dear.

We have also forgotten the blood of our precious Savior, who poured out His life on Calvary’s tree.

We forget that the only thing we are “entitled to” is an eternal torment in hell. We have lost the Spirit of the fear of the Lord which, in times past, reminded us that our very breath is bestowed by the word of Christ—and that by Him, for Him, and to Him all things exist and consist.

We have forgotten to honor our God, and we have forgotten the principles and people who built this country.

Yet, we owe God our very lives—and we owe our prosperous state of existence both to God and those who have gone before us. But we have forgotten to be grateful, choosing instead to be selfish and entitled and to worship the gods of self, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

Entitlement and pride work together, and both are prevalent in America today. How can we pray against these things?

Pray against entitlement as follows:

  • Pray that truth would come out in education; that people would educate themselves about the truth of God’s HIS-story and America’ history.
  • Pray for an outpouring of gratitude, honor, and respect.
  • Pray for a nationwide outpouring of the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord.
  • Pray for an outpouring of HUMILITY.

Beloved, we owe everything to our King Jesus. He and He alone sits sovereign over America; the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24:1). But we can pray in accordance with His will and His Word against every evil spirit. And as we persist in prayer, not fainting even if we grow weary, we will see God move—and the power of His Spirit manifest.
