Biden Admin Increases Number of Migrants Allowed in U.S. Via ‘CBP One’ Mobile App – American Faith

The Biden administration is facing growing criticism and legal challenges as it increases the daily quota of migrants allowed into the U.S. via the controversial CBP One mobile application.

The daily limit has now been upped to 1,450, marking an almost 50% rise from the initial figure.

The CBP One app, launched earlier this year, enables migrants to upload their data and schedule appointments at ports of entry to be processed into the U.S.

This increase in the daily quota follows a previous rise from 1,000 to 1,250 in June, in advance of the end of Title 42 in May.

The acting CBP Commissioner, Troy Miller, stated, “CBP is expanding the number of available appointments at ports of entry for the second time in less than two months, through scheduling enhancements and operational efficiencies.”

He praised the use of technology, such as the CBP One app, as a tool for “improving the delivery of our homeland security mission and providing for safe and efficient processes at ports of entry.”

However, the reliance on the app is viewed by many as problematic.

Since the discontinuation of Title 42, over 49,000 migrants have used the app to make appointments at ports of entry.

These appointments are distributed via a lottery system, and the app also allows nationals from Haiti, Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua to apply for direct entry into the U.S. under humanitarian parole.

The Biden admin asserts this approach, along with a new asylum rule, is crucial in decreasing illegal border crossings.

The rule limits asylum claims from migrants who have crossed illegally, failed to use the app, and did not claim asylum in any other countries they traveled through.

Despite these measures, over 200,000 migrant encounters were recorded in May alone.

While DHS officials attribute a 70% decrease in these encounters after the end of Title 42 to their new strategy, opponents are skeptical, citing concerns about a potential new surge in illegal immigration.
