Praying for Safe Return of Christian Nurse Kidnapped in Haiti … as State Dept. Urges Americans to Stay Away – The Stream

Nurse Alix Dorsainvil and her child were kidnapped Thursday near the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. The New Hampshire native and her husband Sandro live in Haiti doing mission work through their charity El Roi Haiti. Sandro confirmed the kidnapping in a statement.

Alix is a deeply compassionate and loving person who considers Haiti her home and the Haitian people her friends and family.  Alix has worked tirelessly as our school and community nurse to bring relief to those who are suffering as she loves and serves the people of Haiti in the name of Jesus.

Currently we are working with key relationships and strategic partners to ensure their safe return. But now, more than ever, our hope is in Jesus Christ who holds each of us steadfast in His hands.”

WMUR confirmed the State Department is monitoring the situation. “Officials told WMUR they are in regular contact with law enforcement officers in Haiti as they learn more about what happened there.”

Haiti Descends Into Hellish Chaos

Haiti has been descending into chaos and civil strife. The country has become so dangerous the State Dept. on Thursday issued a level-4 travel advisory telling Americans to stay away, and calling for all non-emergency U.S. government personnel in the country to leave, due to “kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and poor health care infrastructure.”

Heavily armed gangs have been running wild, in a country that has been historically dysfunction even in the best of times. And these are far from the best of times.

As Reuters reports, “The Caribbean nation has not elected a new leader since President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated on July 7, 2021.”

Said her husband Sandro:

We continue to trust in Jesus Christ who is faithful, even in these very difficult circumstances.  We are asking people to pray and cry out to Him, that He would hold our friends safely in His hands and place a hedge of protection around them as He makes their path straight back to us and to freedom.”

Sandro is also asking that the public not speculate about the case on Social Media in order to help protect Alix and their child.
