Hunter Biden Misleads Judge About Legal Practice Standing, Reveals Connecticut Bar Suspension for Non-payment – American Faith

In a recent court appearance, Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, found himself in hot water for misleading a judge about his standing as a practicing attorney.

The 53-year-old was asked by Delaware district judge Maryellen Noreika during his tumultuous plea hearing where he was eligible to practice law.

Responding under oath, Hunter confidently declared, “Yes, your Honor,” adding that he was a member of the bar in “District of Columbia and Connecticut, your Honor.”

However, these claims came under scrutiny as Connecticut Judicial Branch records revealed that Hunter’s license to practice law in Connecticut was suspended more than two years ago due to non-payment of annual fees amounting to a mere $75 since 2018, The Daily Mail reports.

According to the Judicial Branch, Hunter is “currently not in good standing.”

The discrepancy was first noticed by Kevin Rennie, a Connecticut-based lawyer and columnist.

In his blog, Daily Ructions, Rennie expressed his astonishment at Hunter’s statements to the court, referring to them as “extraordinary,” and suggesting that he had “misled the court.”

Rennie, while careful not to label Hunter’s claims as lies outright, remarked, “I’m careful about using the word ‘lie’ because I don’t know what was in his head. But he certainly should have known better.”

He went on to express that a lawyer’s failure to disclose their suspension while under oath can be considered misleading to the court.

The Connecticut Judicial Branch’s online records reveal that Hunter was admitted to the state bar in April 1997.

Rennie pointed out that the state bar sends multiple requests for the mandatory fees and 12 hours of legal education every year, implying that Hunter had ignored these reminders.

Hunter’s Connecticut bar records document an ‘administrative suspension for failure to pay the Client Security Fund fee’ in March 2021, followed by two similar suspensions later that year and the next.

However, his bar registration for Washington, D.C. indicates he is currently in good standing.

Melissa Farley, a spokesperson for the Connecticut Judicial Branch, confirmed that Hunter “is currently not in good standing due to Attorney Biden’s failure to register or comply with the Statewide Grievance Committee’s [Minimum Continuing Legal Education] requirement since 2018” and “to pay the Client Security Fund fee for 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.”
