Eight years ago, Joe Kennedy was removed from his position as football coach at Bremerton High School. Now, after several court battles across America, he is set to return to his position in September.

First Liberty represented Kennedy in his battle for religious freedom. Oral arguments took place in April of last year, and on June 27, 2022, the Supreme Court ruled in Kennedy’s favor. The justices overturned Lemon v. Kurtzman in the process, turning Kennedy v. Bremerton School District into one of the most significant religious freedom victories in America’s history.

In March of this year, the Bremerton School District announced that Kennedy would be returning to his job. On Sept. 1, Kennedy will return to the football field at Bremerton High School as a coach. To celebrate this monumental occasion, Coach Kennedy and First Liberty are inviting believers across the nation to pray in agreement on the night of Bremerton’s first football game.
