Israel’s Response May Depend on Our Prayers – Intercessors for America

Tikkun Ministries founder Asher Intrater is calling the Body of Christ worldwide to be interceding for the Israeli government, and specifically its war council and its leaders, as they seek to determine Israel’s response to Iran’s weekend attack.

This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: “I will destroy the archers of Elam (Iran)—the best of their forces. I will bring enemies from all directions, and I will scatter the people of Elam to the four winds.

They will be exiled to countries around the world. I will set my throne in Elam,” says the Lord, “and I will destroy its king and officials.

But I will restore the fortunes of Elam in days to come. I, the Lord, have spoken!” (Jeremiah 49:35–36, 38–39 NLT).

The war cabinet — consisting of its three leaders: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Chief of General Staff Benny Gantz, and Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, as well as three observers — is debating how, when, and toward what specific outcome Israel is to retaliate. There are internal conservative and liberal progressive issues, as well as external U.N. and U.S. pressures attempting to influence the Israeli government.

The unprecedented direct attack from Iran in the form of 360 drones and missiles on Saturday, April 13, was repelled not only by the Iron Dome and other Israeli military defense systems, but also by a coalition of nations that included the U.S., the U.K., France, and Jordan and other moderate Sunni Arab nations. It is truly miraculous that no lives were lost, though there was one civilian injured.

What Is at Stake?

Intrater emphasized that the Iran attack brought into stark focus that the war in Israel isn’t being fought solely against Hamas in Gaza, but also on no fewer than seven fronts, including Islamic Jihad in the West Bank; Hezbollah in Lebanon; Iran’s own National Guard; and Iranian-backed forces in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen. The truly murderous agenda of the Iranian Shiite regime led by the ayatollahs, with its cries of “Death to Israel! Death to America!”, was violently displayed in this unprovoked attack on the nation of Israel. Other more-moderate Arab Sunni nations came to Israel’s aid, intercepting drones and missiles especially over their own nations, as they, too, consider Iran a rogue presence in the Middle East.

There are many retaliatory options which the government could adopt. Because Iran’s attack was truly an act of aggression against the nation of Israel, the government must act decisively. From within the government itself, left- and right-leaning Knesset members hold strong and disparate views of what sort of response will be necessary or adequate. The U.S. and some other nations urge restraint or such nonmilitary options as U.N. sanctions. Militarily, Israel could respond by targeting nuclear facilities, military bases, or weapons facilities, or it could continue surgical executions of Iranian National Guard military leaders. Cyberattacks on nuclear facilities or infrastructure are also being considered. Israel could continue its actions against Iranian proxy militias in Lebanon or Syria and finish its eradication of Hamas by moving against the last four battalions in Rafah, in Gaza.

Israel is calculating the effect of any retaliatory strike on its coalition with Western powers, its normalization in relations with Arab neighbors, and the inevitable negative backlash in the U.N., the media, and academia that usually disregard Israel’s right to defend itself.

Asking the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob

The most important consideration as we intercede for Israel’s government is that of worldview: Whose battle is this? What are God’s priorities as the kingdom of God advances through this regional battle? As the scripture in Jeremiah 49 describes, God Himself is fighting for Israel against the powers and principalities behind the “archers of Iran — the best of their forces.” God will eliminate their “kings and princes,” those that the Enemy is using to harm Israel, but His ultimate goal is to set up His throne in that nation, restoring the fortunes of Elam (Iran) with a thriving body of Iranian believers. God desires that leaders would consult Him first and choose His will over pleasing man (see Proverbs 29:25) or leaning on their own understanding (see Proverbs 3:5–6). Even in the midst of war, the Lord is seeking to make His name great among the nations of the world.

Come, behold the works of the LORD,

Who has made desolations in the earth.

He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;

He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;

He burns the chariot in the fire.

Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!

The LORD of hosts is with us;

The God of Jacob is our refuge.

(Psalm 46:8–11)

Let’s Pray:

  • Father, first, we thank You for protecting Your people and Your nation, the apple of Your eye, from this demonic attack from Iran. You are indeed the God who neither slumbers nor sleeps as You guard Israel (Psalm 121:3–4).
  • We come boldly to Your throne of grace, asking for specific grace for the Israeli war council to hear from heaven, and we pray that Netanyahu, Gantz, and Gallant would be in unity, according to Ezra 37:22 and Psalm 133. Your Word says that “a house divided cannot stand” (Mark 3:25), so we ask for supernatural unity among leaders who have at times been enemies in the past.
  • We ask that You sow confusion and division into the enemy’s terrorist and jihadist camps.
  • We ask for the protection of these leaders of Israel’s government in body, soul, and spirit, and that You would strengthen them according to Isaiah 35:3-4: Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you. Our God, Guard their minds and hearts from fatigue, the trauma of war, and the ungodly pressures of our nation or any other entity seeking to influence the outcome.
  • Bring the counsel of nations to nothing, but release Your plans to Israel’s leaders (Psalm 33:10–11).
  • Bring Netanyahu godly counselors with strategies from Your throne to defeat all of Israel’s enemies.
  • Glorify Your name in all the earth! We ask all of this in Yeshua’s mighty name. Amen.

Please add your own prayer below and encourage your fellow intercessors.
