New York Launches Digital IDs – American Faith

New York has launched a digital ID campaign for residents’ driver’s licenses.

Residents can download the New Longyear Mobile ID app to begin digitizing their identification.

“NEW: We’ve officially launched New York Mobile ID — a secure digital version of a state-issued driver license, learner permit, or non-driver ID,” Governor Kathy Hochul (D) wrote on X. “Not only will New Yorkers be able to quickly display their IDs, but they will have control over the personal information they share.”

Those who digitize their ID can use it at airports and other locations for their convenience.

A press release for the effort explained the Mobile ID is a “voluntary product designed for the convenience and security of New Yorkers and is available to IOS and Android users.”

“We’re thrilled to give New Yorkers access to this cutting-edge technology which provides convenience and added security for Mobile ID users and those who accept it,” Hochul said. “Not only will New Yorkers be able to quickly display their IDs, but they will have control over the personal information they share.”

The program will be applied to nearly 30 airports across the United States.

With the Mobile ID program, physical ID and boarding passes are unnecessary.

One traveler told ABC7NY, “I’ve lost my I.D. on a trip before. That might make it more helpful, but I think generally it makes it easier as long as people communicate right.”
