Canada uses thousands of taxpayer dollars to fund ‘intersectional feminist’ space travel review – LifeSite

OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) – An “intersectional feminist” review of Canada’s space program that called the current approach to space travel “racist” and “masculinized” and not “inclusive” enough was funded from more than $30,000 of taxpayer money, recently disclosed documents show.

According to the Canadian Taxpayer Federation (CTF), documents obtained via an access to information request show Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND) spent $32,250 on a woke project by a University of Waterloo-based research institute called Project Ploughshares.

The CTF noted that the DND-funded intersectional “feminist” report concluded that “current approaches to outer space are ‘heavily Western, state-centric, militarized, masculinized, and colonial,’ and encourage practices that are ‘racist, exploitative, elitist, and environmentally destructive’.”

Project Ploughshares denotes itself as a research outlet that “focuses on disarmament efforts and international security,” and as noted by the CTF has gotten four other federal contracts worth $155,875.

According to Kris Sims, who serves as the CTF’s Alberta director, there are “lots of problems down here on Earth and maybe we should focus on getting those fixed before we spend tens of thousands of dollars talking about how to talk about space.”

“I think a lot of Canadians can think of a lot of causes that need $32,250 more,” she noted, per a CTF press release from September 13.

The CTF said the report claims “colonial-based terms like ‘exploration’ and ‘conquest’” normalize “violence and exploitation” by “depicting space as a ‘hostile and desolate environment that is unpeopled/inhuman and controlled so it can provide an extractable resource.’”

According to the CTF, the project was “pitched” to the DND as an “opportunity to ‘draw on feminist/gendered analysis to apply a (Gender-Based Analysis) understanding to Canadian and international space security policy’.”

The report blasted notions of what it called “colonial connotations” through descriptive words such as “exploration” along with “the idea of space as frontier.”

The report also went as far as saying that “many voices” have long “been absent” from “space security discussions,” those being from women, along with “those from the Global South; black, Indigenous, and other people of colour (BIPOC); and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.”

According to Sims, “It took the equivalent of a neighborhood’s worth of income tax bills to pay for this study.”

“Would any of those families have ranked this report among their 100 concerns? It’s time to stop spending taxpayers’ money on studies like this,” she observed.

The Trudeau government for years has been promoting a pro-LGBT woke agenda, as noted by LifeSiteNews contributor Jonathon Van Maren, with the help of Canada’s long-standing governmental institutions.

“To put a fine point on it: Your wages are garnished each month to fund organizations staging an ideological takeover of Canadian institutions — including public and Catholic schools,” he noted.

“The LGBT movement is an activist movement pushing a contested ideology that millions of Canadians profoundly disagree with — despite that, the Canadian government takes money from hard-working men and women and turns it over to the LGBT movement each year.”
