(LifeSiteNews) — Former NFL player and legendary coach Tony Dungy is not backing down in his defense of the unborn.
Dungy, the first black coach elected to the Hall of Fame in the modern era, primarily uses his social media account to share Bible verses and inspirational quotes. In recent months, he has taken a more confrontational approach to those who contradict Christian teachings, including Vice President Kamala Harris.
On Thursday, Harris posted on social media a claim that she made during her debate with Donald Trump earlier this month.
In an X post, Harris said, “One does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree: The government, and certainly Donald Trump, should not be telling a woman what to do with her body.”
Dungy hit back by asking Harris to clarify her claim.
“Dear VP Harris: I hear you make this statement all the time. Exactly what ‘faith’ are you talking about when you say you don’t have to abandon it to support abortion?” he asked.
“Are you talking about the Christian faith that says all babies are made in the image of God (Gen 1:26), that God places them in the womb (Jer 1:5) and that we should not take any life unjustly (Luke 18:20)? Are you talking about that faith or some nebulous, general ‘faith’ that says we’re good enough, and smart enough to make our own decisions? What ‘faith’ are you talking about?”

Dungy directed his ire toward the NAACP earlier this month, on September 11, during the presidential debate between Trump and Harris.
The NAACP had sent out an X post pushing the lie that late-term abortions do not happen in the United States.
Dungy told his followers that in Florida, where he lives, pro-abortion Amendment 4, which he said he will vote no on, would allow precisely that.
“Please don’t distort the facts to make a point,” Dungy said.

Dungy, 68, won the Super Bowl in 2007 as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. The team was lead by Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning.
Dungy also played for the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers defense in 1978, winning an NFL championship that year against the Dallas Cowboys. He is currently a football analyst for NBC Sports and the national spokesman for the pro-family group All Pro Dad.
Dungy’s response to Harris is not the first time he has expressed strong support for the unborn. In July 2022, he issued a series of tweets calling for more laws that protect innocent life. He also called out Joe Biden for his pro-abortion policies in 2021 and, in 2023, he came under scrutiny from liberal sports pundits for defending Christian moral teachings.
During a town hall event in Michigan this week with Oprah Winfrey, Harris repeated the lie that a Georgia woman named Amber Nicole Thurman died because of Donald Trump’s position on abortion.
Pro-life former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson responded to Harris on X by noting that her death was caused by “complications from legal abortion drugs and gross medical malpractice. She should have been treated immediately by physicians who instead waited too long to act. Georgia’s pro-life law is not the issue.”

Dungy reposted Watson’s statement on his own X account.
This week Dungy also criticized a woman who blasphemously claimed that Jesus would be an abortion facility “escort.” He responded to another user that it is right to be “appalled” at rape and that “we should have compassion for those women who have to carry on with life after that, but my thought is penalize the rapist, don’t kill the baby. It’s still a life.”
