California high school forfeits volleyball match against team with ‘transgender’ male – LifeSite

(LifeSiteNews) — Patriot High School in southern California has become the eighth school to forfeit a match against Jurupa Valley due to the latter having a gender-confused male athlete on its roster.

The match was initially scheduled for September 26, but, due to Jurupa’s “AB Hernandez” being included on the team, Patriot opted to cancel instead.

Hernandez, a male who regularly competes against women, has been in the spotlight before. This past spring, he dominated track and field events in the women’s category for Jurupa, but not without significant blowback.

In May, 16-year-old Reese Hogan came in second in the triple jump during a track and field event to Hernandez, whose jump was a whopping four feet longer than hers.

After the medal ceremony, Hogan, who had worn a “Protect Girls Sports” shirt to a previous meet on May 10, hopped back on the podium in the first place position where Hernandez had stood before. Female sports advocate Rile Gaines praised her on social media.

“When the boy got off the podium, she assumed her rightful spot as champion. The crowd erupts with applause,” she remarked.

Principals at JSerra Catholic, Orange Lutheran, and Crean Lutheran High Schools were also unsettled by Hernandez competing on the female team. They issued a joint statement on May 9.

“Unfortunately, in three of these events our young women will be competing against a young man (who identifies as a female). He will likely dominate the competition and handily win all three events. To be clear, we hold no malice toward this particular student. We do feel compelled, however, to take a stand for the right, duties and dignity of our young women,” it said.

U.S. President Donald Trump also denounced Hernandez’s involvement.

“California, under the leadership of Radical Left Democrat Gavin Newscum, continues to ILLEGALLY allow ‘MEN TO PLAY IN WOMEN’S SPORTS,’” Trump exclaimed on Truth Social in May.

The Trump administration eventually sued California for refusing to enforce Title IX, which is a 1972 law that ensures males are not allowed to compete on women’s sports teams or use their locker rooms, bathrooms, and other sex-segregated areas.

OutKick Sports sent a reporter to a match between Jurupa Valley and Chaffey High School earlier this year. Chaffey was one of a handful of teams to compete against Jurupa with Hernandez on its roster.

“Hernandez’s advantage was so clear and obvious that several members of the Chaffey supporting section were visibly upset by it. When OutKick asked those parents of Chaffey athletes whether the school’s administration or coach had asked the parents or members of the team if they were willing to play against Jurupa and a male athlete, nobody knew the answer,” the reporter said.

Three of Hernandez’s own teammates have taken legal action over the matter. Alyssa McPherson, a Catholic, and Hadeel Hazameh, a Muslim, have quit the team in protest. McPherson, Hazameh, and their families have also filed lawsuits against the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), the California Department of Education (CDE), and the Jurupa Unified School District (JUSD).

“Plaintiffs have been intimidated by an intentionally hostile environment created by Defendants wherein they were bullied by school officials to censor their objections to competing with, and against, a male and to sharing intimate and private spaces with a male,” the lawsuit reads.

Fox News Digital reached out to Newsom’s office but was told that the situation is out of his hands.

“CIF is an independent nonprofit that governs high school sports. The California Department of Education is a separate constitutional office. Neither is under the Governor’s authority,” the statement said.

LifeSite has reported on numerous other examples of female athletes standing up and rejecting male competitors in their sports. This past March, a former co-captain at San Jose State University filed a lawsuit against her school over the participation of a gender-confused male named Brayden “Blaire” Fleming. The women’s volleyball team for the University of Nevada also opted to not take the court against San Jose due to Fleming’s inclusion.

During the presidential campaign, then-candidate Trump said that he would “ban” males playing against women were he to defeat Kamala Harris. “It’s a man playing in a (women’s) game,” he plainly stated.
