Mother of Georgia School Shooting Suspect Allegedly Charged With Elder Abuse – American Faith

Marcee Gray, the mother of Colt Gray, who allegedly carried out a deadly shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, has been indicted for elder abuse against her own mother.

According to reports, Marcee taped her 73-year-old mother, Deborah Polhamus, to a chair for nearly 24 hours, stole her phone, and damaged her home after an argument in November. Polhamus was eventually found by a family friend after she had been unreachable by phone.

Marcee faces multiple charges, including exploitation of an elderly person, false imprisonment, and property damage. She has a lengthy criminal history involving drug use and property damage. Despite this, Polhamus expressed reluctance to see her daughter face felony charges.

This case is further complicated by the recent actions of Marcee’s son, Colt Gray, who opened fire at Apalachee High School on September 4, killing two students and two teachers, and injuring several others.

Colt smuggled an AR-15-style rifle into the school and carried out the attack after sending alarming messages to his parents. His father, Colin Gray, is also facing charges for allowing Colt access to the firearm used in the shooting.

Marcee Gray, in a letter, apologized to the victims’ families, expressing deep sorrow for the lives lost. Colt has been charged with four counts of felony murder, and further charges are expected for both him and his father.

This marks the first time in Georgia that a parent of a school shooter has been charged in connection with such a tragedy.
