The Sisters of Charity of New York will join Nuns on the Bus and Friends for a press conference and rally on Wednesday, October 2, at 2:30 p.m. at New Hour, 164 Third Avenue, Brentwood, NY. This event, part of the national “Nuns on the Bus and Friends” tour, focuses on mobilizing voters around social justice issues during the 2024 election season. Our Sisters, Associates and ministry representatives will travel from the University of Mount St. Vincent to participate.
The national tour highlights the values of the “Equally Sacred Checklist“—a voter guide produced by NETWORK Advocates. The checklist urges voters to prioritize the common good, emphasizing justice and the well-being of all over single-issue politics. It reflects Catholic Social Teaching principles on matters like protecting human life, promoting peace, environmental care, and economic justice. The Sisters of Charity stand in solidarity with this mission, advocating for policies that uphold human dignity and protect fundamental freedoms.

Boarding the bus will be Sisters Kathleen Byrnes, Carol De Angelo, Karen Helfenstein, Claire Regan, Virginia Searing, Mary Kay Finneran, Associates Fr. Chris Keenan, OFM, Helen Mack, and Sue Porcelli, along with representatives from ministries including Elizabeth Seton Children’s, LEFSA, Sisters of Charity Housing Development Corp, Vincent’s Table and the New York Foundling. These ministries actively address critical issues such as homelessness, hunger, affordable housing, and providing specialized healthcare services for vulnerable populations, including medically complex children and families in need of support, ensuring their basic needs are met with dignity and compassion.
