Most Voters, Including Less than Half of His Supporters, Don’t Believe Trump Will Concede the Election if He Loses

A recent Pew Research poll found that less than a quarter (24%) of all eligible voters polled believe former President Donald Trump will concede the upcoming election if he loses. Less than half (48%) of Trump supporters say he’ll concede if he loses, with only 4% of those who support Vice President Kamala Harris.

In contrast, 72% of all voters, including 95% of Harris supporters and 48% of Trump supporters, believe the Vice President will concede if she loses. The survey, taken between September 30 and October 6, defined “win” as “receiving enough votes cast by eligible voters in enough states.”

Voters were also asked about the importance of the losing candidate conceding the election outcome. Given the scenario of a Harris loss and a Trump victory, 86% of Harris supporters and 77% of Trump supporters believe it is at least somewhat important that Harris concede.

In the case of a Harris victory and a Trump loss, Harris supporters, at 86%, remain essentially unchanged in their belief that it is at least somewhat important that Trump concede. This scenario presents a different story for Trump supporters, with only 59% believing it will be at least somewhat important for him to concede.

The survey found that few voters (14%) believe it is already clear who will win the election. More Trump voters (18%) than Harris voters (10%) see clarity in the election outcome.

The survey measured other sentiments, including which candidate most represents change and how voters feel about the presidential campaign. More results, including the survey’s methodology, can be found here.
