Jerry Springer Apologizes for How His Show “Ruined the Culture”

The results are in: Jerry Springer is ready to apologize.

Speaking on David Yontef’s Behind the Velvet Rope podcast, the host of the controversial Jerry Springer Show shared he was regretful for how his series negatively impacted the culture.

“I’m so sorry. What have I done? I’ve ruined the culture,” Springer told Yontef. “I just hope hell isn’t that hot because I burn real easy. I’m very light-complected, and that kind of worries me.”

The Jerry Springer Show, which ran for nearly 30 years and over 4,000 episodes, featured guests who aired out their problems in relationships and/or family life in front of a live studio audience. It gained popularity for its outrageous conversations and reactions from guests.

But for all the memes it brought out, there were many negative real-world consequences. Families were torn apart, people’s trauma was put on display for all to see and in some cases, irreversible actions were taken. In one instance, a woman was murdered after she appeared on the show in 2000 and it was revealed that she was sleeping with her ex-husband without the knowledge of his new wife.

After 27 years on air, NBC quietly canceled the show, but the damage was already done.
