Christian music artist Amy Grant is reportedly hosting a same-sex wedding at her and her husband Vince Gills farm.
Grant told The Washington Post that her niece is getting married, and its the familys first bride and bride celebration.What a gift to our whole family to just widen the experience of our whole family, she said.
Honestly, from a faith perspective, I do always say, Jesus, you just narrowed it down to two things: love God and love each other, Grant told the outlet. I mean, hey thats pretty simple.
Grant has found fans in the LGBTQ community, a group she has strongly advocated for.
In 2021, she told Proud Radio host Hunter Kelly that she supported the LGBTQ community.
Thats why to me its so important to set a welcome table, because I was invited to a table where someone said, Dont be afraid, youre loved. Gay. Straight. It does not matter, she said.
It doesnt matter how we behave. It doesnt matter how were wired, Grant said, according to ChurchLeaders.com. Were all our best selves when we believe to our core: Im loved. And then our creativity flourishes. Were like, Im gonna arrange flowers on your table and my table. When were loved, were brave enough to say yes to every good impulse that comes to us.
Earlier this month, Grant was recognized by The Kennedy Center as a special honoree, celebrating her career in Christmas and mainstream music and as an advocate.
I know that the religious community has not been very welcoming, but I just want to stress that the journey of faith brings us into community, but its really about one relationship. The journey of faith is just being willing and open to have a relationship with God. And everybody is welcome. Everybody.
In July, Grant fell off her bicycle in Nashville, rendering her unconscious and putting her in the hospital for about a week. She was wearing a helmet.
She postponed tour dates but recently went back on the road with CCM artists Michael. W. Smith and Michael Tait of The Newsboys.
