4 Scriptures to Pray Over the Justice System – Intercessors for America

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Are you tired of seeing our American justice system turned into a weapon for evil? If so, let’s join together and pray God’s Word over our judges, their decisions, and the justice system at large!

Have you taken your place on the wall?

God’s Word will not return to Him void (see Isaiah 55), so praying over strategic Scriptures is always an extremely effective way to intercede. Today, let’s pray through four Bible verses in particular that have special application for any nation’s system of laws, justice, and the implementation thereof.

First, let’s pray through 2 Chronicles 19:4-7, which says:

So Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem; and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the mountains of Ephraim, and brought them back to the Lord God of their fathers.

Then he set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city, and said to the judges, ‘Take heed to what you are doing, for you do not judge for man but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment. Now therefore, let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take care and do it, for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, no partiality, nor taking of bribes’ (2 Chronicles 19:4-7 NKJV).

Based on this Scripture, pray:

  • That the judges would take heed to what they are doing, taking it seriously and knowing that they have a sacred charge before God.
  • That the judges would sense the overshadowing of God’s Holy Spirit as they make their decisions, following His leading in all things.
  • That all judges and every person in the justice system would be filled with the Spirit of the fear of the Lord.
  • That judges would be free from iniquity.
  • That judges would decide every case without partiality.
  • That there would be no taking of bribes.
  • That any corruption that already exists in the legal system would be exposed, stopped in its tracks, and itself brought to justice.

Next, let’s look at both Amos 5:24 and Psalm 89:13-14 together, since they carry a similar theme:

But let justice run down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream (Amos 5:24 NKJV).

And:

You have a mighty arm; strong is Your hand, and high is Your right hand. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face (Psalm 89:13-14).

Based on these Scriptures, pray:

  • That America’s justice system would be flooded with real justice, which is equitable for all and is based on the law;
  • That both righteousness and justice would be used as the boundaries and measuring guides for all legal decisions made in our nation; and
  • That judges and those in authority would know the difference between what appears just but isn’t (because it’s not righteous), and what appears righteous but isn’t (because it is not just).

Finally, let’s pray through Romans 12:19:

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord (Romans 12:19).

Based on this Scripture, let’s pray as follows:

  • Instead of having the wicked weaponize the justice system, let’s ask the Lord to weaponize our justice system and sanctify it for His purposes, turning it into a weapon in only HIS hand.
  • Pray that the Lord would avenge the many injustices done to the righteous in America.
  • Ask the Lord to vindicate all those who have been falsely accused.
  • Pray that the Lord would personally rise up to defend those who have been attacked by the wicked in this nation. Pray that God would arise and His enemies would be scattered!

Beloved, it’s true that mercy does triumph over judgment.

But since judgment happens every day in our American justice system, judgments are still important. We need to pray over those judicial and legal decisions frequently.

Therefore, let’s join together and ask the Lord today to exhibit His complete control over all the systems of men. After all, the earth and the fullness thereof belong to God alone. And as we pray, He can turn the tide of injustice, break the chains of those who are falsely accused and imprisoned, and scatter His enemies!
